2020 Wings Over North Georgia Airshow Photo Gallery. As everyone on the planet already knows, 2020 has been a crazy, anxiety-filled year. Understandably, almost every airshow in the US was cancelled due to the pandemic. The fine folks at Wings Over North Georgia, which takes place at Richard B Russel airport in Rome, Georgia, came up with a different idea. They put together a drive-in airshow. This meant that people could drive up and watch the show from their vehicles or tailgate within a large, defined space, designed to provide adequate social distancing for the outdoor event. By all accounts, the event worked out well and the flying was spectacular!. The event was headlined by the USAF Thunderbirds, along with the Viper Demonstration Team, A-10 Demo Team and C-17 Demo Team. Great civilian acts were on hand as well including Michael Goulian, Michael Wiskus, Buck Roetmanm Matt Younkin and more. This provided a hopeful close to my 2020 airshow season and will likely be a blueprint for future shows.
