2017 Thunder Over South Georgia Airshow Gallery By Chris Buff
A gallery of photos captured at the 2017 Thunder Over South Georgia Airshow, Moody AFB. Conditions were not typical for an airshow in Georgia, with temps in the 40's and low 50's and winds up to 25 mph. This was the first outing with my new Nikon 200-500 VR mounted to the Nikon D500 body. The lens is a beast, and is significantly larger and heavier than the 80-400 AFS VR, but works well handheld. This is a very sharp lens, even at 500mm wide open, and I think the images speak for themselves. Looks like I have a keeper! Show security made things a bit more challenging as no bags of any kind were permitted, so I had to go back to basics. Just one D500 body, with the 200-500 lens, and one compact 16-85 lens in the photo vest. Not ideal, but it kept things simple and turned out to be a workable kit.
